SANS any fanfare, the Philippine Tennis Academy (PTA) has been conducting tournaments and clinics with the primary objective to reach the top 10 in the International Tennis Federation junior rankings.

Organized last year by tennis lovers led by businessman Jean Henri Lhuillier, Oscar Hilado, Rommie Chan and Hanky Lee, they formed the PTA to provide the opportunity for underprivileged players in the countryside and help them out of poverty.

Former national players Felix Barrientos and Raymund Suarez also pitched in their share and helped train young PTA talents.

The first group of trainees included Roxanne Resma of Cagayan de Oro, Anthony Craig Pantino of Cebu, Khim Iglupas of Iligan and Tami Nguyen of Muntinlupa.

To keep the identification program going, the PTA has already created four satellite centers to serve as sources of fresh talents in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, La Carlota and Bais.
