Lanzado, Duran score twin-kill in net tourney

Ormoc City, Leyte played host to the 14th leg of the nationwide Cebuana Lhuillier National Age-Group Tennis, a grassroots-based developmental tennis program focused on discovering young tennis talents in the countryside. Photo shows the different age-group winners at the recent leg of the series.

Tangub City’s Francis Lanzado and Samar bet Ma. Delrose Duran emerged double winners again at the recent 14th leg of the nationwide 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier National Age-Group Tennis series in Ormoc, Leyte.

Lanzado took the 16-under crown at the expense of Harvey Gilbuena, 6-1, 6-1, and was an easy 6-4, 6-1 winner over Emmanuel Vacalares II from Misamis Oriental, for the 18-under boys’ crown, while Duran took the 14-under and 16-under girls’ titles, beating Joy Camille Sanico of Leyte, 6-2, 6-2, in the younger age-group finals, defeating Cebu’s Kristin Salimbangon 3-6, 6-0, 4-2, as the latter retired.

Sanico consoled herself by ruling the 18-under competition, beating Leyte’s Theresa Tan, 6-1, 6-2; while Cagayan de Oro’s Gennifer Pagente emerged champion in the 12-under girls’ group with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Anica Cari.

Other winners were Cebuano Cesar Salimbangon, who won over Ozamiz City bet Ashton Villanueva, 4-1, 4-2, in the 10-under unisex group, Marc Sison of Cebu in the boys’ 12-under as he swept Joshua Torres, 6-0, 6-0, and Tacloban City’s Harvey Gilbuena, who made up for his loss in the 16-under finals by taking the 14-under crown, defeating John Alejandre from North Cotabato, 6-2, 6-1, in the finals.

Being played now is the 15th leg in Bais, Negros Oriental. The series will have a total of 21 legs ending in Cebu City in December.
