Tortal, Duran stand tall in Lhuillier tennis tourney

CONTINUING where they left off in the previous leg in Camiguin, Rupert Tortal from Surigao, and Eastern Samar native Delrose Duran emerged big winners again as they won two titles each in the recently-concluded eighth leg of the Cebuana Lhuillier National Age Group Tennis tournament in Gingoog City.

The promising Toral won his first title at the expense of Justin Yepis of Cagayan de Oro, 4-0, 4-0 for the 10 & under unisex crown, before striking again with a come-from-behind win over Orland Patrick Garcia, 4-6, 7-6, 10-2 in the 12 & under age group.

Duran made it to two in a row over Anjelica Mosqueda, defeating the latter 6-3, 6-3, in the 14 & under finals, and was pushed a bit before winning 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 in the championship game for the 16 & under age group.

The other winners were Shandaryl Laput from Claveria, Misamis Oriental who won over Dean Cassius Maglinao in the boys’ 14 & under age group, and the duo of previous leg winners Francis Lanzado and Dave Mosqueda.

Lanzado, from Tangub City took the 16 & under title, beating Mosqueda, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 while Mosqueda evened it up by defeating Lanzado 7-6, 6-0 for the boys’ 18 & under crown.
