Local bet Jan Marie Anghag and Gingoog native Joel Librodo led the winners at the recent sixth leg of the nationwide Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Series in Ozamis City, Misamis Oriental.

Anghag ruled both the 12-under and 14-under age-group titles as she beat another local bet Abby Balatero, 6-0, 6-0, in the younger age group, and followed it up with a similar 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing of Mary Angelica Balatero, this time in the 14-under group.

Librodo, who lost in the finals of two age-group tourneys in a previous leg in Marawi City, was rewarded this time as he beat nemesis Francis Lanzado, 7-5, 6-1 for the 16-under crown, but was extended by Mart Clarence Cabahug in the finals of the 18-under age group, before winning, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.

Other winners in Ozamiz City were local bet Ashton Villanueva, who defeated Rupert Tortal of Surigao, 4-2, 5-4, 7-4, though he lost to Cagayan de Oro’s Henry Garcia, 1-6, 0-6 for the 12-under title; Bukidnon’s Mark Malinis, who beat CDO bet Dean Casius Maglinao, 6-1, 6-0, in the boys’ 14-under finale, and Samarena Melrose Duran, winner of two titles in the Marawi City leg, who easily disposed of Tangub City’s Nellyn Mae Saladaga, 6-1, 6-1, for the girls’ 18-under crown.

Action in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Series shifts to Mambajao, Camiguin with the eighth leg of the series.

The four-day tournament, hosted by the Camiguin Capitol Tennis Club and supported by the local government of Camiguin, is a Philippine Tennis Association-sanctioned Group 3 event.
