Fil-American netter Ruben Gonzales will see action in three Futures in Mexico as part of his preparations for the Cebuana Lhuillier-Philippines’ coming showdown with New Zealand in their next Davis Cup tie.

“I hope to continue to work hard and keep producing good results,” said Gonzales in a radio interview after he led the Philippine team to a 3-1 win over Thailand in their Group 2 Asia-Oceania tie over the weekend at the Plantation Bay Spa and Resort in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Gonzales upset top Thai bet Danai Udomchoke, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2, in the first reverse singles

Because of his win, the Philippines went on to advance to the third round, and arrange a finals showdown with New Zealand.

Philippine tennis officials are making arrangements so that the tie will take place from Sept. 13 to 15 in Plantation Bay again.

Gonzales, who is ranked no. 278 in the world, got the Philippines’ campaign started on a bright note last Friday when he disposed of Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul, 6-7(6), 6-4, 3-0 (retired), in the first singles.
