Long-time Philippine Davis Cup team manager Jean Henri Lhuillier is upbeat of the chances of the Philippine Davis Cup team against Thailand this weekend in the second round of the Davis Cup-Oceania Zone (Group 2).

Set again at the clay-courts of Plantation Bay in Cebu City, where the Philippines beat Syria, 3-2, in an earlier match, the team will again bank on Fil-Am players Treat Huey, currently making waves abroad, and Ruben Gonzales, together with the country’s top-ranked player Johnny Arcilla.

“Our previous win over Syria showed that our boys can play at a high level and I am confident they will deliver again against Thailand this weekend. This being a home game, I like our chances. Huey has been playing well recently abroad and he will play a key role,” said sportsman-businessman Lhuillier.

Non-playing team captain Roland Kraut expressed the same sentiment.

“Our boys are used to playing in the clay-courts of Plantation Bay, while the Thais are more used to hard courts. This will be a big advantage for us,” said Kraut.

Arcilla is also looking forward to the match-up. “Pinaghandaan ko ito at malaking bagay ‘yung panalo namin sa Syria noon.”
