C Lhuillier NCR Leg a smash hit

ORGANIZERS of the 2013 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group series held its very first leg for NCR this year and attracted not only local budding tennis stars but got entries from as far as Ilocos Norte, Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna and Cavite, totaling 120 participants.

Held over the last two weekends, the tournament is part of the nationwide grassroots tennis development program sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier, headed by sportsman-businessman Jean Henri Lhuillier. It was the second leg of the series following the inaugural one in Kidapawan, North Cotabato.

“I am a firm believer that the future of Philippine tennis lies on the young players of today and so there is the need to continue discovering and identifying those with potentials particularly in the provinces,” said Lhuillier, also the team manager of the PH Davis Cup team.

At the recent NCR tournament, Ralph Juliane and Erika Manduriao ruled the 18 & under age group with Julian beating Chris Justin Prulla 6-1, 6-1, while Manduriao defeated Isabelle Mendoza, 6-4, 7-5.

In the 16 & under boys, Prulla also placed runner-up, bowing to Elijah Arevalo in an extended game 6-1, 4-6, 4-10. In the distfaff side, Chloe Saraza swept Aimealou Rosales, 6-1, 6-1, in the finals. Emmanuel Fuellas ruled the 14 & under group with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Jacob Martin and Camelle So duplicated it with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mariel So to take the girls’ crown.

Jed Justin Labasano posted a 6-1, 6-1 over Laurenz Quitara to take the 12 & under title.
