Fil-American Treat Huey leads a star-studded men’s cast that will vie for supremacy in the 31st Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships that gets a big push with an increase in prize money.

As part of their commitment to the tournament, Cebuana Lhuillier CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier announced during the launching of the tournament that they are going to sweeten up the cash prize by adding an additional P100,000 to the P500,000 total prize pot to heighten the drama in the wild chase for the crown.

Last year, the winners in both the men’s and women’s divisions got only P100,000 and P50,000, respectively.

Also joining the event that starts on Dec. 1 aside from Huey are fellow Davis Cuppers Ruben Gonzales, Francis Casey Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon.

It marks the first time in the rich history of the event that the core of the PH Davis Cup team will be participating.

Meanwhile, the Philippines has been told to host the Davis Cup Group II first round tie against Syria on Feb. 1 to 3 next year due to the ongoing strife in Syria.

Philta has yet to decide the venue of the tie, although officials are eyeing to hold it outside Metro Manila.

It will be the first time that Syria and the PH will be meeting in the Davis Cup. The Filipinos stayed in Group II after losing to Indonesia, 2-3, in the final round last September, while Syria was promoted from Group III.
