The fifth seed Juvan Divinagracia easily dismantled Rommel Openiano in straight sets, 6-4,6-1, to advance into the second round of the 5th Cebuana Lhuillier Men’s Open Tennis yesterday at the Baseline tennis courts.

The match only lasted for an hour, according to tournament referee Godfey Caliao.

While Divinagracia had a fast and easy game, another visiting player from Manila Arcie Mano needed a deciding set before booking a ticket into the last 16 knockout stage.

Mano had to deal well with Cebuano Yoyoy Villa before pulling off a precarious 6-7 (5),7-6 (1), 6-1 victory.

Villa was oozing with confidence, but ran out of gas even before the third and final set could unfold to become the first of the nine Cebuanos in the main draw to crach out of the singles event.

On the other hand, the Australia-bound Kyle Parpan fell prey to Kenneth Salvo via a 7-5,6-4 decision.

Parpan, a wildcard entry, decided to join this event as part of his preparations for the upcoming Junior Davis Cup in Australia along with seeded no. 6 Jurence Mendoza.

Aside from Parpan and Mendoza, three othertop junior netters got wildcard entries in Stefan suarez, poderick Lazaro, and Joshua Cano.
